POWER AND PERFORMANCE
The 3.0L Hurricane straight-six twin turbo engine is the next evolution of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) technology. The firing order, number of main bearings, the crank design, all work together to deliver a smoother, more efficient, and more powerful powertrain. It's the most power-dense package RAM has ever offered. There's more power per litre than the supercharged alcohol-injected HEMI®-powered Dodge Demon 170 — along with the incredible torque on demand that inline designs are known for, as well as superior fuel economy. The foundation of the Hurricane engine is a deep-skirt cast-aluminium block with structural aluminium alloy oil pan. The strongest RAM engine ever uses cross-bolted steel main bearing caps to contain the robust rotating assembly of a forged-steel crankshaft and forged-steel connecting rods. During manufacturing, the block is deck-plate honed to optimize the cylinder bore shape, which helps improve fuel efficiency. Each turbocharger in the Hurricane straight-six twin-turb feeds three cylinders. From a performance standpoint, two smaller turbochargers with less inertia spin up faster and deliver boost to the engine at lower rpm than a single, large turbo. The result? The Hurricane twin-turbo flexes its muscle with a broad, flat torque band that sees the engine maintain at least 90% of peak torque from 2,350 rpm all the way to its red line. Without a doubt, the Hurricane powertrain is the next evolution in the proud RAM tradition of power and performance.
MORE POWER, MORE EFFICIENT
When it comes to fuel consumption, the figures for the 3.0L Straight Six 420hp engine in the 1500 Hurricane range show approximately 12% less fuel consumption* (10.74L/100km^), when compared with the 5.7L HEMI V8 (12.2L/100km^)! Achieving even a small reduction in fuel consumption, adds up to a noticeable difference on each and every tank. With the Ram 1500 Straight-Six Twin Turbo engine you get the muscle of a truck built to work, without paying extra at the pump. *Based on comparison between the 420HP Straight Six Twin Turbo engine with 10.74Litres /100km^ and the 395HP 5.7L HEMI V8 with 12.2Litres/100km^ fuel consumption. ^Combined figures according to ADR 81/02 derived from laboratory testing.
